Message So, I was on a 600 mile road trip last week and the temp crept up to the top of the gauge. I watched and then it dropped again. After another 5 miles it crept up again. I pulled over to check it out. After cooling the radiator enough to get the cap off, i realized that I was dangerously low on water. I filled it and hit the road. 150 miles later it did the same thing. I filled it and went home (only 20 more miles).

The next day i checked it and found 2 very tiny leaks where the radiator hoses attach to the hard pipes. I sealed them and refilled the system. I warmed it up, burped it, and checked for leaks. All is dry and well. I have been watching it for a few days now and still am seeing a potential problem. If I check the water in the radiator first thing in the morning (before starting it) the level is low ( just below the first row if fins), and the overflow tank level is rising. Prior to this problem, when I checked the cold water level, the radiator would be completely full.

It seems as though the rad cap is letting water out properly, yet the system is not creating vacuum to pull it back when it cools.I am suspecting the radiator cap, so I switched it with another one I had. The symptoms didn't change. Over time,, the cooling system will eventually become dangerously low again. I have double and triple checked for leaks and find none. I am still leaning towards the rad cap, but wanted some input before proceeding.

Thanx
